E.M. Foley Gift Shoppe on Scott Street

When I was a kid, this was the holy grail of TY Beanie Baby stores. I never bought any from here, but every day as I walked home from Mackin Elementary, a little further up the street from the gift shop, I would stop and look through the shop window at the beanie babies, usually prompting the owner to come out and ask me if I wanted to come in. This was 15 years ago. As I snapped this picture, I didn’t realize until looking at it later that the window still displayed an array of TY Beanie Babiesa long dead trend. I’m struck by the timelessness of this place. It played such a pivotal role in my childhood. This was where I bought my dad his first ever Father’s Day gift from me, with my own money, a proud feat for a 10-year-old. It was a wooden sculpture that said D-A-D, with a wooden hammer and saw on either side. The shop owner gave me what I know now was a generous discount.
